What is a Credit Union ?
Credit unions are not-for-profit financial institutions. They offer many of the same products and services as banks – including savings and checking accounts, loans, ATMs and online services – but there are also some big differences that can save you money.
Credit unions are owned and controlled by their members, not-for-profit shareholders. That means credit unions can usually offer better interest rates and lower costs.
Credit unions are regulated by the National Credit Union Administration ( NCUA ), an agency of the United States federal government. Credit unions that are insured by the NCUA (like Cal State L.A. FCU ) display the official NCUA insurance sign prominently, so you know you're protected. Learn more about the NCUA .
